large file load issues.

Added by Alan Fitzgerald almost 3 years ago

Hi
I was just wondering if anybody has the same issues importing .shp files or larger .osm files.
I cant appear to have anything open. If I try it on the mac it just hangs forever and if I try it on the PC (using vista using Merkaartor v0.16.1) it hangs for some time then I get a C++ runtime error message. This also occurs when I try a .osm file.
I am trying to open Australian OSM files as apposed to downloading lots of small areas.
Can anybody give some advise?

Regards,

Alan

Could you please open an issue, adding or referencing the files you are using.

Thanks

P.S. You'd have more luck on the list when trying to reach the community ;-)

When i try to download i get the message

Unexpected http status code (400)
Server message is 'Bad Request'
API message is 'You requested too many nodes (limit is 50000). Either request a smaller area, or use planet.osm'

It's just a few square km's i try to download...

Well, if this is too much (can hardly believe it) then what is "planet.osm"?

I can't find this anywhere on the site

This is an OSM limitation when trying to download an area thru the "editing" online api, and is independant of Merkaartor.

For advanced use of osm data, you are requested to use offline versions of the database from sites like Cloudmade (http://downloads.cloudmade.com/) or geofabrik (http://www.geofabrik.de/data/download.html), or the full official "planet" (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Planet.osm).
